If you liked The Fault In Our Stars or, possibly, even hated it, there’s still a good chance you’ll fall for Me and Earl and the Dying Girl.

Based on author and screenwriter Jesse Andrews’ 2012 book of the same name, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl is a touching coming-of-age film that follows awkward high school student Greg (played by Project X’s Thomas Mann) as he’s forced by his mother to befriend leukemia-ridden Rachel (Bates Motel’s Olivia Cooke). Soon, their friendship becomes the real thing. With Earl (“Greg’s co-worker” in bad, low-budget spoof movies and played by newcomer RJ Cyler), Greg decides to make a film for Rachel.

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl received a standing ovation when it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, not to mention countless rave reviews that have called the film “honest” and “witty” while singing praises for the film’s young cast. Seriously, guys, you’re going to cry so much.

Fresh from destroying about two boxes of Kleenex while watching the movie, ANDPOP’s Simon Mohos sat down with stars Thomas Mann, Olivia Cooke and RJ Cyler. The trio talked about the importance of telling stories like Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, how the film has changed their personal lives, and why Olivia felt like she had to shave her head for the role.

And in honour of Olivia’s brilliant American accent (she’s English), Simon also challenged Thomas, Olivia and RJ to a game of Heads Up. How did they do? Well, you gotta watch to find out!

Also starring Connie Britton, Molly Shannon, Nick Offerman and Jon Bernthal, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl opens in Toronto on June 12, in Vancouver on June 19, and nationwide on June 26.
