Another independent film is coming to New Mexico.

The New Mexico Film Office confirmed that “Katie Says Goodbye” will be filming through the end of April throughout the state.

The film tells the story of 17-year-old waitress who supports her deadbeat mother, while saving to escape her truck stop town.

After she falls in love with an ex-convict, things quickly turn south for her, ultimately testing her spirit and determination for a better life.

The film stars Olivia Cooke, Mireille Enos, Christopher Abbott, Jim Belushi and Mary Steenburgen.

According to the NM Film Office, the production will employ at least 29 New Mexico crew members, 33 New Mexico actors and approximately 50 local background talent.

Cooke last filmed “The Signal” in New Mexico. The film is directed by Wayne Roberts.

It’s produced by Max Born, Kimberly Parker, Eric Schultz, Carlo Sirtori, Benjamin Steiner and Jake Wasserman.

Alan Rickman (Harry Potter), Olivia Cooke (Me And Earl And The Dying Girl) and Douglas Booth (The Riot Club) have boarded Jane Goldman’s adaptation of Peter Ackroyd’s best-selling novel Dan Leno And The Limehouse Golem, with Lionsgate acquired UK and Ireland rights. The film, which will be directed by Juan Carlos Medina (Painless), will simply be called The Limehouse Golem. Set in 1880 London, it’s a gothic murder mystery described as being in the style of David Fincher’s Seven and James Watkins’ The Woman In Black. A series of murders has shaken the community to the point where people believe that only a legendary creature from dark times — the mythical so-called Golem — must be responsible.

Number 9 Films’ Stephen Woolley, Elizabeth Karlsen and Joanna Laurie will produce. Hanway Films is handling sales. Lionsgate moved quickly to snap up UK and Ireland rights before the upcoming Cannes market.

It’s been a busy few days for Woolley and his colleagues: Deadline exclusively revealed the producer had brought on Gemma Arterton and Bill Nighy to star in Their Finest Hour And A Half, and Woolley also is celebrating two films — Paolo Sorrentino’s Youth and Todd Haynes’ Carol –– in competition at Cannes.

“Having two films in competition in Cannes this year is a total thrill for Elizabeth and me, and we are privileged to be once again working with world-class filmmakers like Alan Rickman and Jane Goldman and the sensational director, Juan Carlos Medina and stars of the future Olivia Cooke and Douglas Booth on this gothic masterpiece,” Woolley said. “It’s going to be the first time the world will see the amazing universe that Peter Ackroyd has created that has a more sensational twist than The Crying Game!”

In her first deal since her breakout performance in the Sundance hit, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, Olivia Cooke has signed on to star as the title character in Katie Says Goodbye, an indie drama overseen by the makers of Martha Marcy May Marlene.

Joining Cooke in the feature are The Killing star Mireille Enos, Christopher Abbott, Jim Belushi and Mary Steenburgen.

Sean Durkin, the filmmaker who wrote and directed Martha Marcy May Marlene and its producer Antonio Campos and Josh Mond are exec producing Katie. (Durkin and Campos also produced James White, which starred Abbott and was directed by Mond) Eric Schultz, Jacob Wasserman, Kimberly Parker and Carlo Sirtori are producing.

Wayne Roberts wrote the script and was encouraged to direct it by Durkin and Campos, whom he’s known since their days together at NYU film school.

Katie centers on a 17-year-old waitress, played by Cooke, who attempts to overcome the hardships of poverty by prostituting herself in order to fulfill her dream of a new life in San Francisco.

Abbott will play Cooke’s mechanic love interest while Enos is Cooke’s mother, a woman with no mom instincts whatsoever.

Belushi plays one of Cooke’s clients and Steenburgen is the owner of the diner where Cooke works.

The feature, which will be a Relic Pictures production made in association with Parallell Cinema, is scheduled to begin production at the end of March in New Mexico.

Cooke can be seen on A&E’s Bates Motel and is coming off a strong 2014 in which she appeared in three movies, Ouija, The Quiet Ones and The Signal.

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, which won both the audience award and the grand jury prize at Sundance, was scooped up by Fox Searchlight and opens June 12.

Cooke is repped by Gersh and Lena Roklin at Luber Roklin. Enos, who recently wrapped indie thriller You Were Never Here, is repped by CAA, Howard Green of Gartner/Green, and Stone, Meyer.
